The
Society was founded in October 2000 to promote interest in the Northumbrian
Jacobites, principally those who took part in the Rising of 1715 (The Fifteen),
led by James Radcliffe, 3rd Earl of Derwentwater, his brother the Hon. Charles
Radcliffe, William, 4th Baron Widdrington, and Thomas Forster, MP. A particular
aim of the Society is to generate a wider awareness of the historic buildings
of Dilston Castle and Chapel, and other Jacobite memorials in the North-east of
England.
The
Society is non-political and non-denominational; it is entirely an historical
and social organisation. There is an annual programme of talks, visits, events
and social activities. Members receive the Society’s Journal, The Fifteen,
and regular newsletters.
